Deforestation of the Atlantic Forest in the state of Ceará: analysis of the Environmental Kuznets Curve from panel data, 2011 to 2017

Abstract: This research aims to analyze the relationship between deforestation of Atlantic Forest and economic activity, under hypothesis Environmental Kuznets Curve, considering municipalities state Ceará. For this, it is estimated a Tobit model for panel data, in period from 2011 until 2017, GDP per capita controlling associated factors with both environmental protection. Unlike expectations, population density cattle farming soften activity. The evidence found rejects “Inverted-U” hypothesis, yes, suggests “N” format, indicating that region may be cyclical.
